We are sad to report another business has gone the way of the failure. Sweet Dreams Pastry Shop in Clock Tower Place off of Forest Drive began two years ago as a supposed breath of fresh air to the local pastry scene. The formidable pastry chef, Chris Kujala, who used to head Washington DC’s Kinkead’s dessert offerings worked side by side with his wife trying to make their mark on the Annapolis sweet-tooth scene. Perhaps there were too many cavities or not enough hungry mouths to feed, but Sweet Dreams is effectively shut down. For how long, we do not know. What we do know is that a replacement is on its way, quicker than we would imagine.
The mysterious Rosie Bea’s is opening a new and improved bakery in Sweet Dreams’ place. I don’t think we could be more excited for another place to buy flour infused sugar, chocolate and all the other staples of the foodie food pyramid. The question is, how good will it be and will it stick around longer than Sweat Dreams?

While the quality of Sweet Dream’s goods is up for debate, the location is most likely what did it in. That shopping center is tucked away on a downward slop from the main road. The reason most people go there is for the Wine Cellars of Annapolis of Calico Corners. Bakeries should be in high-traffic locations where people can frequent them at any hour of the day. That being said, Rosie Bea’s better be dam good if it wants to attract people on a continuous basis. Good luck!

yes, good luck to RB’s. Just about anything would be better than Sweet Dreams was however. Every time I went in there, there was NEVER anything in the cases, except for a handful of muffins - less than 6! And when I would ask about ordering, the answer was always the same “oh, we’re too busy right now, it’s just the two of us, and we’re booked through the next week/2 wks/ whatever”. Seriously, you couldn’t buy something if you wanted to! I could never figure out what or who they were baking for, nor could I find anyone who ever ate something of theirs. They also needed a menu, or some kind of listing as to what they could make, to get an idea of what they were trying to supposedly sell. My friends and I had a joke that the place was just a front for some other illegal business, because we could never see any cakes or pastries for sale!
Good luck to RosieBeas — the location is tough, but maybe the third (bakery in that spot)will be a charm!
wow that is some rough commentary! But funny! I went into Rosie Beas and have to confirm its fate is securely sealed…death is immenent. It all depends on how long the owners want to pay rent for. The remodelling they did on the interior is pointless, should have saved money. AND they charge a crap-load for their baked goods, which taste like something from Giant Foods bakery. Makes no sense.
