Or atleast thats what will happen if we don’t leave the crabs alone in the Bay. I am sure the crabbers and fishermen will bitch and moan about new crabbing regulations…but to some extent aren’t the ones pulling the life out of the water responsible for its demise?
Fret not crabbers, this is the perfect time for a new job opportunity. You are all ready and poised to help the conservation efforts on the bay. Not only do your livelihoods and families depend on it, but you know the crabs the best, probably better than some eco-nerd in a lab at the Department of Natural Resources. Save the crabs, save the world?

Those aren’t blue crabs.
man I know, its San Fran crabs….gets the point across though doesn’t it?
The same way a shot of the Golden Gate would get a point across about the Bay Bridge.
do I sense a crab snob? Is it really a big deal?
Yes and yes.
Ok, lets flip the switch…where can you get the best crabs in town? While it wasn’t in Annapolis, I did have some good crabs at Seaside in Glen Burnie last weekend.
Cantlers? Magothy Seafood? Deep Creek? Definitely NOT Buddies.
Buddies in the harbour? That place always looks so skeezy. How are the crabs in Annapolis these days? I had my fair share in St. Michaels over the summer and was extremely dissapointed…if it comes to serving crabs that are so small and pathetic, just do them the favor and let them hang out in the bay.
Buddies (in the harbor) is a tourist trap.
Posting an image that clearly isn’t of local crabs clearly demonstrates your lack of knowledge about and insight into the area, and demonstrates that your site is not serious about actually covering news that matters in Annapolis.
I found your post completely insulting to a profession and way of life that has been a staple of our area for centuries, and the way you treated the Eastport commentator wasn’t very respectful. Crabbers should be involved in conservation efforts, but blaming already eco-friendly crabbers for causing the bay’s troubles is ludicrous.
…and everyone knows the best way to eat crabs in Annapolis it to catch them yourself, or to buy them live and steam them at home.
Jeff-you obviously missed the point of the post. As crabbers knows crabs best, THEY should be the ones leading the conservation efforts. Also this site has no intention of being a Hometown Annapolis.com, so we don’t cover news…we cover gossip. If you are looking for that style of news, you are definitely at the wrong site. I disagree that posting a picture of a non-MD crab deems it impossible I have any insight into a conservation/business issue. Instead of negative criticism, why not discuss what is being done by eco-friendly crabbers? That would point this discussion in a much better direction.
As an avid home-chef I am sure making crabs at home is delicious, but in all my years here I haven’t met anyone who does that…usually its a road trip over the bridge to eat crabs, but I might look into it next time.
But please do return and feel free to comment!
