In a bit of different news, a high school student in Glen Burnie set off some kind of explosive device in the bed of his truck yesterday…and is being charged with a couple felonies as a result. I don’t know about this post 9/11 stuff…I remember when bringing firecrackers/cherry bombs to school was funny and when everyone you knew pulled the fire alarm or flooded the toilets. Felonies? Was there really ill-will here? Could this just be a teenager being a teenager? I would like to think so. I mean heblew something up in his car…what idiot would do that?

If any of you have visited the local SPCA, you might be aware of the large number of pit-bulls that are discarded in the area (very sad). Where do they all come from? Do we have a local dog fight scene? Perhaps its no coincidence that Maryland is trying to pass dog-fighting legislation that would make it a misdemeanor, NOT a felony, to attend dog or cock fighting. The House and the Senate are both in agreement on this point. The fine for the misdemeanor is at a maximum of $2,500. Who of you can afford this expensive spectator event?

Ellen Moyer, Mayor of Annapolis, Art In Public Places and Artwalk invite you to the unveiling of “Community Rising” on February 29th at 3PM at the Stanton Center Gymnasium (92 W. Washington St, Annapolis MD). The closest off-street parking is in the Whitmore Garage (enter at 67 Clay Street). Please do not park in front of the Stanton Center!

Art is located on the Attman-Glazer Building, Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation (45 Calvert St, Annapolis MD). This fifth installation in the Artwalk exhibition is part of the Charter 300 celebration and is partially funded by Art in Public Places.
Today is officially “Save Maryland IT Day“. Nerds around the bay area are in uproar over a proposed 6% sales tax on IT related service/product providors. The Maryland Tech Council as well as other local tech companies are joining the fight. With IT services/products usually having high-margins, I really can’t predict what will happen on the legislation floor. Anyone participate in today’s events? What do you think?
It seems the state politicians are trying to rally votes for the upcoming elections with a “plan” to assist people who didn’t read the fine print of their mortgages and are now close or currently in foreclosure. Has anyone gone through this process yet? Success/failure?
I had no idea these kinds of “industry” groups existed, but, long live the internet! There was a Nurse-Midwives Rally Monday night in Annapolis to support the Birth Options Preservation Act is House Bill 1407. This would end the requirement that nurse midwives practicing in Maryland have a written agreement with a doctor. Hip hip hooray! The question is, can these midwives/nurses give pregnant women an orgasmic birth?
The body of Frank Jones, 38, was found next to a river behind Brick Church Road last Wednesday. Police have only related that he was shot to death. This is another sad bit of crime-related news for Annapolis. He was engaged to his friend of 25 years, Shavon Kyle.
While the body has been found, police are still looking for his vehicle, a 2007 light green Hyundai Tuscon with a luggage rack, which could help shed more light on the investigation. The license plates on the vehicle are either 856M832 or 137M170. That is a little strange no, to have two possible license plates for one vehicle? If you have any information related to this case please call 866-7LOCKUP. Anywho, here is what the vehicle looks like:

It looks like Annapolis is the Silicone Valley of the Chesapeake. Local network management software firm Netcordia recently hired Greg O’Connell as their VP of Federal Operations. With over 15 years experience in the government sector, Greg will surely be a great addition to the team. For all of you out there familiar with government contracting work, you know how lucrative those contracts are….congrats Netcordia! Go get em’ and show off Annapolis’ techie side.
